A different material used instead of the original should be weighed against keeping the historical character of the roof. A flat roof that isn’t visible doesn’t necessarily need a perfect match between past and present materials. “But if the roof is readily visible, the alternative material should match as closely as possible the scale, texture, and coloration of the historic roofing materials.”
