The Quick History of the Taj Mahal

The Taj Mahal is not just an Donald Trump Atlantic City casino. It’s one of the seven wonders of the world and is the first famous landmark post for H & S Roofing and Gutters Historic Roofing Series.

The Taj has millions of tourists visit each year, and was built as an ode to love. Sir Edwin Arnold once called the Taj “not a piece of architecture, as other buildings are, but the proud passions of an emperor’s love wrought in living stones”.

The magnificence of the marble and precious stones make the “Crown Palace” one of the most beautiful tombs in the world. Mughal emperor Shah Jahan built the mausoleum in memory of his wife, Mumtaz Mahal, who died in childbirth in 1631. Designed by Ustad Isa of Iran, construction on the Taj Mahal started the next year.

Architecturally, the Taj’s rectangular base symbolizes the different sides to view a beautiful woman, while the famous white marble dome gives the structure perfect symmetry. The white of the marble changes color in the sunlight - pink in the morning, milky white at night and gold in the moonlight. The moods of beauty changes, just like the Taj Mahal.
